Inside the Park
Lodging courtesy Delaware North Companies-
Ahwahnee Road, east of Yosemite Village; 801-559-4884 [new phone]. The Grande Dame. It'll cost you, but you've got to do it, at least once in a lifetime.
-
CA 41, Wawona; 801-559-4884 [new phone]. Second-oldest operating hotel in the west, like a grand old Victorian resort lost in the Adirondacks...
-
Yosemite high country, off Tioga Road; 801-559-4884. Two small cabins with porches and Adirondack chairs looking across the meadow, plus a collection of basic "tent-cabins." Somewhat off the beaten path. Family-style dining by reservation.
-
Tioga Road, Tuolumne Meadows; 888-253-5636. The word “lodge” will seem a bit grandiose unless you’ve been out wandering in the wilderness for a forgotten period of time. Good base camp. Shoot for a tent by the river. Eat elsewhere if you can.
-
888-253-5674. Took hold in the '20’s and '30’s as one of the most popular ways to experience the Yosemite backcountry. Do one or all five. Dinner & breakfast incl. Reservations by mail-in lottery but check for last-minute cancellations.

Oakhurst, Wawona Road (CA 41)
The fastest road in from Los Angeles and other points south.-
48688 Victoria Lane, Oakhurst; 559-683-6860 ...as if it had once been some nobleman’s country estate and the town had only recently sprung up around it.
-
48571 CA 41, Fish Camp; 888-644-9050; 559-683-7720. Within earshot of the narrow-gauge train depot, a series of terraced motel units offering a decent value alternative to the deluxe corporate resort up the road.
-
1122 CA 41, Fish Camp; 888-514-2167. Corporate-retreat version of a Yosemite gateway hotel, brought to you by Delaware North. Near south entrance. 244 rooms, comfortable and quiet. Pool, activities, dining, muzac.

El Portal Road (CA 140)
While the other routes afford famous, last-minute, jaw dropping panoramas of Half Dome and Bridalveil, the El Portal Road starts the drama earlier.-
6979 CA 140, Midpines; 866-826-7108, 209-966-6666. Summer camp meets college meets backpacking in Europe meets Yosemite. Great food, new spa.

-
Groveland, Hetch-Hetchy, Big Oak Flat Road (CA 120)
Most popular way in from the Bay Area, Sacramento, and points north.-
18767 Main Street, Groveland; 800-273-3314; 209-962-4000. Wrap-around porches, wicker chairs, abundant floral patterns, quilts, featherbeds and period antiques.
-
33160 Evergreen Road (road to Hetch Hetchy); 800-93-LODGE; 209-379-2606. Renovated historic cabins with tastefully retro furnishings, galvanized sconce lighting, personal satellite radio, knotty-pine trim. Loads of activities. Classic roadhouse bar.
